Spring 2017 – James Bond Invades America

A Tale of Three Publishers:
‘So how did James Bond successfully invade America? He made it through the hard work of three men whose names few know in connection with him or Ian Fleming. One is Thomas Guinzburg, a founder of The Paris Review. The other two publicly gave very different accounts of their roles in the success of James Bond in America, generally omitting each other from their narrative: Victor Weybright, ‘a do-or-die Anglophile’ who grew up on a farm in Maryland, yet ‘spoke with a perfect British accent’,2 and Truman ‘Mac’ Talley, Weybright’s stepson and one-time protégé.’
