Important Notice: Fraudulent Website Impersonating The Book Collector
15th May, 2026
We have recently become aware of a fraudulent website operating under the domain: www.thebookcollectorjournal.co.uk
This website has no affiliation whatsoever with The Book Collector, The Collector Ltd, or our editorial team. It appears to have been operating for several months without our knowledge and was taken offline earlier this week, though it may still appear in search engine result lists.
The site falsely used the name The Book Collector, our ISSN number, and company details in an apparent attempt to impersonate the journal. We understand that individuals may have been charged fees for the supposed review, editing and publication of articles which were falsely claimed would appear in The Book Collector. No such submissions were received by our editorial team, and no articles submitted through that website have ever been considered for publication in the journal.
The fraudulent site also falsely claimed to provide access to The Book Collector archive and appears to have charged users to access material unrelated to our publication.
We would urge all contributors, subscribers and readers to exercise caution if contacted by individuals claiming to represent The Book Collector, particularly where payment requests or unsolicited publication offers are involved. Official communication from the journal will only come through recognised The Book Collector channels and domains. We do not charge contributors for article submissions or editorial processes.
We are grateful to several academics and readers who contacted us after becoming concerned by the site’s activities, including one researcher who recognised that the fraudulent platform was soliciting articles in disciplines entirely unrelated to the journal’s longstanding focus on bibliography, book history, collecting and the rare book trade.
If you have had any dealings with this website, received suspicious correspondence, or have further information that may assist us, we would be very grateful to hear from you. Please get in touch with Sarah Bennett at sarah@thebookcollector.co.uk
We take the protection of our contributors, subscribers and reputation extremely seriously and are continuing to investigate the matter.
